Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see the Veterinary Dentist?

While a referral is preferred to ensure your pet is being routed to the appropriate service for their condition, it is not required. If you have not been referred to a Veterinary Dentist but think your pet could benefit from advanced dental care feel free to contact us to discuss your pet’s condition. A member of our team will help you determine whether or not you should make an appointment or if your pet’s needs are better served by a Primary Care Veterinarian.

Do you take pet insurance?

We work with all pet insurances however most pet insurance plans operate on a reimbursement system rather than direct-pay coverage. This means that the pet owner pays the clinic and the pet insurance then reimburses the owner. Trupanion is currently the only pay-to-clinic pet insurance we partner with. Not all pet insurance plans offer the same coverage, we recommend that all pet owners study their policy closely to prepare if their pet’s dental care will be covered or not. Our team is also happy to assist you with any claim forms that need to be filled out by the doctor or any other records or paperwork you may need to facilitate your claim.

Do you perform non-anesthetic dental cleanings?

No, and this procedure is not recommended by veterinary dental professionals. Non-anesthetic dental cleanings are merely superficial and only address the exposed part of the tooth, not below the gum-line where periodontal disease occurs. Pets that undergo non-anesthetic dental cleanings are at greater risk for advanced periodontal disease that can lead to tooth and bone loss. It can also be a very stressful and even painful procedure for your pet to endure. Dental cleanings done under anesthesia when x-rays can be taken and a proper below the gum-line cleaning can be accomplished are the only cleaning procedures recommended by the American Veterinary Dental College.
